SAIL Empowerment Programme 2023 For Constituents of Yobe North Senatorial District

Today was yet another historic day for the people of Yobe North Senatorial District, as we gathered to launch the Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (SAIL) Empowerment Programme 2023, that seeks to touch the lives of thousands of my constituents. 

We were joined by our leader, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, and other government dignitaries to flag-off the event. 

As you know, Yobe North Senatorial District is one of the economically disadvantaged in Nigeria, causing many people from the area to struggle to meet their basic needs. This is due to a number of factors, including the lack of jobs, the high cost of living, and insufficient infrastructure.

Interventions by the SAIL FOUNDATION are aimed at addressing these issues, as well as assisting the people of my senatorial district in overcoming these challenges. The SAIL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME is specifically designed to provide a range of materials and support services to individuals and families.

Empowerment materials distributed, today, during the sixth edition of this year’s programme include: Toyota Land Cruiser Sports Utility Vehicles, Peugeot sedans (406 and 307), Sharon buses, 18-seater Toyota buses, tractors for farming, combined harvesters, rice planters, fire fighting trucks, tricycles (Keke NAPEP), and small harvesters.

Others are motorcycles, power generators, refrigerator and deep freezers, grinding machines, sewing machines, irrigation pumping machines, chemical sprayers (manual and auto), and pots and stoves. 

In the last couple of years, the SAIL FOUNDATION initiated and sponsored empowerment programmes to provide vocational training to help my constituents develop skills needed to enable them get jobs. The training provided were in a variety of fields, including agriculture, construction, and information technology.

The SAIL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME, in the past, also provided business development services to help constituents start and grow their own small businesses. In addition, the SAIL FOUNDATION EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (SAIL-EDI) also went further, last year, to provide scholarships and grants to the tune of over N250 million to help students in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions pay for their education. This was done to improve the educational attainment of the young people of Yobe North Senatorial District and open up new opportunities for them. 

This year’s programmes by the SAIL FOUNDATION will have significant impact on the lives of the people of Yobe North Senatorial District. The programmes are, amongst others, expected to:

Reduce Poverty: The SAIL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME, on Monday, December 25, 2023, provided constituents with the materials and equipments they need to start businesses. This will help to reduce poverty and improve the standard of living for the people of Yobe North Senatorial District.

Improve Healthcare: The SAIL ANNUAL MEDICAL OUTREACH/LIVESTOCK VACCINATION PROGRAMMES, which kicked off on December 23, 2023, will help to improve the quality of health of the people of Yobe North Senatorial District. This will reduce the number of deaths from preventable diseases and improve the quality of life for constituents. Also, the annual livestock vaccination programme is aimed at protecting livestock from common diseases and ensuring the health of the animals.

Promote Economic Development: The SAIL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME, on the other hand, will help to promote economic development in Yobe North Senatorial District. This will create jobs, boost incomes, and improve the standard of living for everyone.

The SAIL PROGRAMMES are bold and ambitious initiatives that will on the long term have a transformative impact on the lives of the people of Yobe North Senatorial District. The programme will drastically reduce poverty, improve education and healthcare, and promote economic development. I am confident that these programmes will make a real difference in the lives of my constituents and help them build a better future for themselves and their families.
