Lieutenant Colonel Imam Makes History, Becomes First Professor In Nigerian Army
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar-Surajo Imam has become the first serving army personnel to achieve the rank of professor.
Imam is from the department of mechatronics engineering at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.
The promotion was ratified during the NDA council meeting in September and took effect from October 1, 2023.
AM Tukur, the registrar of the NDA, announced the promotion, highlighting the confidence and recognition of Imam's contributions to his department.,
The recognition is seen as a reflection of Imam's exemplary services and commitment to upholding excellence in his field.
The promotion is expected to encourage outstanding contributions within the academic community of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Imam, hailing from Kankia in Katsina state, holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Bayero University, Kano.
He has attended over 40 international workshops, presented papers at conferences in the UK, Spain, Egypt, and the USA, and currently serves as the head of NDA's department of mechatronics engineering and director of the Centre for Innovation and Creativity.
