The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps hosts a delegation from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) at the headquarters on Airport Road, Sauka, Abuja.

The delegation was led to the Headquarters of the Corps today 18th October, 2023 by Colonel Adrian Freiermuth. The delegation arrived to assess the impact of its Institute training programs, as part of their annual evaluation process.

During the meeting, Colonel Freiermuth conveyed warm regards from KAIPTC and explained their mission to evaluate the effectiveness of specific courses, including one at their Center. He emphasized the importance of understanding emerging trends and ensuring course participants comprehend the intricate roles, synergies, and coordination mechanisms within humanitarian assistance in Africa.

Nigeria, he said, was chosen among three other countries, for assessment due to the Institute collaboration on Training of Trainers, particularly in areas of interest with the NSCDC.

The Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, represented by Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Alao Kemi Ajet, shared the Corps mandates and activities, focusing on the Corps’ efforts in addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and humanitarian services.

ACC Ajet highlighted the NSCDC's proactive stance in combating criminal activities, especially SGBV-related cases using the collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in disaster response and humanitarian aid efforts as a case study.

Additionally, ACC Ajet showcased the innovative N-Alert system, used during elections to monitor live events and report incidents in real-time.

ACC Ajet emphasized the Corps’ commitment to gender equality within and outside the workplace, explaining initiatives such as the establishment of crèche facilities at the Corps’ Headquarters and State Commands for nursing mothers as well as paternity leave for fathers.

She concluded by presenting the Corps’ Gender Policy underscoring the dedication of the Commandant General to mainstreaming gender considerations at all levels of the Corps.
