BREAKING :Census 2023: Will Definitely Take Place Soon, According To The Federal NPC Commissioner

 Abdulrazaq Folorunsho Gidado, the Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) for Kwara State, has promised Nigerians that the 2023 population and housing census project will absolutely take place this year.

He said that the census was one of the most important and current issues in Nigeria and promised that it would soon be over.

Gidado gave the impression that the NPC board has taken the necessary steps to get in touch with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to get his input on the project.

He revealed that the President's Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Secretary to the Federation, Mr. George Akume, as well as other personal aides, have been consulted regarding obtaining a meeting with the government for a new date.

According to Gidado, Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum and Governor of Kwara State, has also been consulted regarding the necessity of a census this year.

The commissioner stated on Tuesday during a breakfast meeting in Ilorin with executives from the media regarding the 2023 census that the substantial funds that were invested in the project would not be permitted to be wasted.

Gidado said the NPC completely upheld the delay of the activity by the past administration of Muhammadu Buhari to permit the new legislature of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have a contribution to the activity since the new government will get and acknowledge the archives.

He stated that the project had already been adequately prepared, and training and retraining were continuing despite the delay. 

The chief said innovation sent for the primary advanced registration practice in the nation will make misrepresentation of figures troublesome and structure some portion of endeavors conveyed to direct precise, evident and satisfactory statistics for arranging and improvement of the country.

He blamed the present problems of the country on the inability to have accurate population data for proper planning and development of the people, adding that “a robust database is very crucial for Nigeria among the comity of nations. ”

Over 18,000 ad-hoc staff have been recruited for the conduct of the census exercise in Kwara State.
