Only the female bites for blood, which she needs to mature her eggs. 

Although 

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes most commonly feed at dusk and dawn, indoors, in shady areas, or when the weather is cloudy, they can bite and spread infection all year long and at any time of day. Although the lifespan of an adult Ae. aegypti is two to four weeks depending on conditions,the eggs can be viable for over a year in a dry state, which allows the mosquito to re-emerge after a cold winter or dry spell.

*Dengue virus, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever are all arboviruses transmitted to* *humans by the* 

*Aedes aegypti mosquito.* *One enigma concerning these four viruses is that a single mosquito (out of more than 3,500 species),* 

Aedes aegypti, has been the vector causing almost all major epidemics outside Africa.

*For Aedes mosquitoes, development and survival is limited to temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit and below 102 degrees for Aedes aegypti.*
